After a 20+ year hiatus, I recently became active on HF. Since November 30th, 2019, I’ve logged over 1100 contacts and have confirmed contacts in 49 of the 50 United States. The lone hold out is MS. It’s not simply unconfirmed contacts, but NO contacts. In that same period of time, I’ve confirmed contacts with 48 countries!

My first thought was that it I was simply too close to get a signal into MS. You know, skip and all that. Well, I’ve made contacts in Georgia and Tennessee and geographically I’m about the same distance from both of those states.

On PSKReporter, I’ve actually seen stations who have reported hearing me. And not even close to the noise floor. Yet, when I call them, I get nothing back.

I know it’s simply a matter of time and persistence. However, I’m ever so close to bagging WAS and the lone holdout is my nearest neighbor to the west.
